US Grant & Mark Twain Fundraiser
July 2, 2010

This fund raiser was held to benefit the Grant Cottage located on Mt. McGregor, outside of Saratoga Springs, New York.

This special evening marked the first meeting between Mark Twain and the Grants since 1885. At sold out, standing room only performance, the audience was treated with three special programs:

General Grant (Larry Clowers) bade his farewell to the people of New York City as he departed for the last time to his final home at Mt. McGregor. His farewell speech was delivered with such emotion that moved the audience with awe and respect for the General.

Mark Twain (John Pogson) presented a wonderful program outlining his life, accomplishments, and proved that Mark Twain was the greatest speaker of his day. This superb performance demonstrated that Mr. Pogson's portrayal of Mark Twain is indeed the finest in the Country.

The final portion recreated the moment that Mark Twain (John Pogson) presented the first royalty check from the publishing of Grant's Memoirs. The audience was completely moved as Mark Twain presented a check of $200,000 to Mrs. Julia Grant (Constance Clowers) for her husband's memoirs.

Due to the great success of this program, several thousand dollars were raised to support the Grant Cottage. Plans are already being made to present a similar program next year.

Below are a few photos from this sterling performance.
